Sovcomflot Selects MAN to Power New LNG Carriers
April 03, 2012

The Russian fleet operator will use MAN’s dual fuel engines for two new carriers.

MAN Diesel & Turbo announced on April 3 that Sovcomflot has chosen their dual-fuel MAN 51/60DF engines for 2 new LNG carriers. The carriers, the Velikiy Novgorod and the Pskov, are being built at STX Offshore & Shipbuilding’s yards in South Korea, and will enter operation in the fourth quarter of 2013 and second quarter 2014. Each ship will be equipped with 2 of MAN’s 8L51/60DF engines and 2 of their 9L51/60DF engines.

The engines are to be built at MAN’s plant in Augusburg, Germany, and will be delivered to STX in the fourth quarter of 2012. The carriers will be chartered to Gazprom and enable year-round LNG export from LNG plants in Russia. Sovcomflot’s contract with STX also includes an option for 2 more carriers to be delivered late in 2014 and early in 2015.
