LNG Carrier Al Gharrafa in Collision with a Container Ship

The carrier is currently anchored in Singapore and under investigation for the accident.

The LNG carrier, Al Gharrafa was reportedly in a collision with the container ship Hanjin Italy in the Malacca Straits. Trade Winds News reported January 3 that Al Gharrafa suffered bow damages while Hanjin Italy suffered damages to her starboard side. Al Gharrafa is jointly owned by Nakilat and Overseas Shipholding Group (OSG), which is also the operator of the ship. The LNG carrier, under a charter with QatarGas, was en route to deliver LNG to Tokyo Electric Power’s LNG import terminal in Japan.
