Tianjin FLNG to commence operations in 2014

Construction of China’s first LNG facility near the northern city of Tianjin has started, Reuters reported March 1, citing comments from China National Offshore Oil Corp (CNOOC). The 5.7 billion yuan (approximately US$900 million) floating, storage and regasification unit (FSRU) is expected to be able to receive 2.2 million tonnes (approximately 5.1 billion cubic meters) annually when it starts operation next year. Tianjin Port and Tianjin Gas Group Co. are also expected to invest in the FSRU. By 2015, CNOOC plans to transition the project to a traditional land-based receiving terminal.
